3 Garden Path Design Ideas

The vast majority of domestic gardens will have some kind of garden path installed, serving – of course – as a practical way to navigate your way through your outdoor spaces but also looking beautiful in its own right, enhancing your garden’s visual appeal while creating a truly functional part of the property.

But how do you make your garden path look better?

This is a question we often hear and the good news is that there’s a huge amount you can do to make these features really pop.

Here are just a few ideas to point you in the right direction.

1. Add a gentle curve

Straight lines might seem practical (and potentially less expensive), but the look is a little outdated now – and remember that you never really see straight lines in nature!

Add in a gentle curve to soften your landscape, deliver a layer of interest and make your garden even more elegant than it already is.

2. Work with the landscape

When installing your garden path, aim to respond to the landscape you’re working with rather than trying to force it to bend to your will.

Consider the plants that are already there, as well as any slopes and gradients you have, planning your path accordingly. The end result will be a garden aesthetic that flows perfectly.

3. Avoid concrete

It can be tempting to just go for concrete when considering what the cheapest way to make a garden path is, but the finished look can often seem harsh and unwelcoming.

Instead, consider splashing a bit of cash on reclaimed bricks, for example, or natural stepping stones. You won’t compromise on practicality and you’re sure to love the end result a whole lot more.
