It would be wonderful if money were no object, but this is very rarely the case for most of us – and, when it comes to landscaping and garden design, it’s essential to come up with a realistic budget and do all you can to stick to it.
Costs can quickly spiral if you aren’t careful, so excellent project management is also a must. Of course, this is something that we can advise on and help with here at LW Landscapes, but to help you get started with garden design on a budget, here are four top tips.
1. Plan properly
Make sure you plan out your space properly so you can see what’s affordable and what features you can have. Decide on what’s most important early on and what you can go without.
2. Work in stages
Of course, you want to get everything done quickly and you want your garden to be complete so you can spend time in it, but it’s advisable to carry out the work in stages so you can manage your costs more effectively and not overstretch yourself.
3. Consider cheaper materials
Just because something’s expensive doesn’t mean that it’s ultimately better than the cheaper options on the market. Gravel, for example, is a great option for driveways, garden paths and outdoor spaces in general, and it will cost you significantly less than paving slabs.
Plus it’s great for sustainable drainage and can help reduce surface water runoff and flood risks.
4. Reuse materials
You may already have materials you can use onsite without having to purchase anything new.
Old paving slabs can be revitalised with a pressure wash and some elbow grease, for example, and you could use these to create a path through the garden if you want to have a new patio installed.
