The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) is certainly gathering pace, seemingly permeating every aspect of our lives – and garden and landscaping design is by no means different in this regard.
Of course, it can be very tempting to use these tools to help you put together plans and ideas for your outdoor spaces, and they do provide you with an excellent jumping-off point… but it’s important to remember that AI resources will never be as good as working with a professional landscaping expert.
If you’re wondering why, heed the wise words of Andrew Duff, chair of the Society of Landscape Designers, emphasising the fact that designing gardens is an art form and AI “cannot replicate the insight, empathy and personal engagement that comes from working with a skilled garden designer to create a living, evolving natural space within the home”.
He did note, however, that AI has the potential to be useful for visualisation, inspiration and concept exploration, in much the same way that CAD is now used to support design processes.
Mr Duff was quoted by Pro Landscaper as saying: “[AI] cannot replace the human understanding, creativity, accountability and experience that sit at the heart of successful garden and landscape design.”
