Creating beautiful outdoor spaces to spend time in as a family is always an exciting and worthwhile endeavour… but it’s all too easy to focus your attention entirely on the back garden and neglect the front.
Of course, you want to design a useable space at the back of the house that can be enjoyed throughout the year but don’t forget that the front of the house is what people will see first.
Initial impressions count for a lot and curb appeal is invaluable, whether you’re selling your home or not, so here are some top tips to help you make the most of this part of your home.
1. Train plants up the house
A wonderful (and relatively easy) way to transform the front of your house is to train plants to climb up the walls, best achieved using a wire and vine eye system that can be screwed into the masonry itself, either vertically or horizontally. Options include building raised planters, digging into the ground or using containers to achieve this look.
2. Combine practicality & imagination
For many of us, the front yard needs to serve a practical purpose, providing a space to park cars.
But this doesn’t mean it can’t be attractive at the same time, so consider investing in permeable driveway materials to allow rainwater to penetrate into the ground, find low-growing plant species that are tough enough to be parked over or measure out how much specific space you need for your car and then dig out planting areas to make the most of dead space.
3. Make room for seating
You’re sure to want to admire all your hard work once the front garden project is complete, so add in some seating areas so that you have somewhere comfy from which to enjoy it all and soak it all in.
