Driveway Extensions: Our Top Tips

There may well come a time when you decide that the driveway you have at home isn’t sufficiently big enough to suit the growing needs of you and your family.

As such, it might be time to consider extending your driveway to give you more space, make your home more functional and increase the curb appeal of your property – perfect if you’re planning to sell at some point in the future.

Extending the driveway brings with it all sorts of benefits, everything from giving you more room to park your cars to creating a beautiful sense of flow leading up to your front door. Not only that but an extension can also potentially increase the value of your house, so it’s possible that you’ll get a better asking price when it does come time to move on.

In order to achieve this, however, you need to make sure that you match the extension with your existing driveway so that it all blends in as one and doesn’t look disjointed. You may need to resurface the old driveway to deliver on this front, but it’s certainly worth the added expense.

If you are keen to keep costs to a minimum, you may want to consider gravel as a material, as this is cheaper than asphalt and other such options, ensuring that you can stay within budget and still enjoy a bigger, more useful space.

Also don’t forget to check whether any permits are required before you start work. If the driveway is at the front of the property, you will likely still need planning permission to widen it if you want to extend it more than five square metres and it’s a traditional impermeable material that doesn’t allow for surface water runoff into a permeable space.
