One of the best ways to add value to your home, as well as increasing the curb appeal of your property for prospective buyers, is to have a new driveway installed.
Not only will this add to the general aesthetic of the house but it also serves a very practical function, as well, giving you somewhere safe and secure to park your cars.
No matter what sort of material you go for, however, there will surely come a point in the future when you need to carry out some kind of maintenance work.
Cracks in the driveway surface are particularly common frustrations, especially if you’ve chosen something like concrete, which is perhaps more susceptible to such issues.
To repair a crack in your concrete driveway, clean it thoroughly first, then mix up some concrete for patch repairs. If the crack is particularly large or deep, go for standard concrete mix as the best option. For smaller areas, something like a sand mix or concrete resurfacer should do the trick.
Once you’ve filled in the gaps and smoothed them over, wait until the concrete starts to set then use a broom to provide a bit of surface texture so that the concrete isn’t slippery when wet.
If you have a tarmac driveway, meanwhile, pressure wash the surface and allow it to dry, then remove any loose material in the crack before filling it up with crack filler, smoothing the area over with a trowel and leaving to dry. If you have deeper holes, you can use cold-lay tarmac and compact this down with a roller so it lies flush with the surface.
Of course, it can be difficult and time-consuming to carry out driveway repairs yourself. If you need any further help or advice, get in touch with the LW Landscapes team today.
