Having a gorgeous garden is, of course, every homeowner’s dream – but not everyone has the time to dedicate to upkeep, so designing a low-maintenance space can make all the difference.
Here are just four of our favourite low-maintenance hard landscaping ideas to consider if you are currently in the planning stages of a garden makeover.

1. Large-format porcelain paving
If you opt for porcelain paving slabs, you’ll find them very easy to look after. They’re highly stain resistant, don’t absorb moisture and only require a wash down every now and again to keep them looking fantastic.
The bigger the slabs, the fewer joint lines you’ll see, which can also facilitate an easy clean while making your outdoor space look bigger and feel more contemporary.
2. Resin-bound pathways & driveways
Resin is a hugely popular choice for hard landscaping, particularly where driveways are concerned. This material is smooth and porous, locking loose stones in place and preventing weed growth, automatically keeping your to-do list down to a minimum.
But that’s not all! Resin is also a permeable surface, so you can reduce surface water runoff and drive down flooding risks, making it a top sustainable choice.
3. Raised beds
Gardening is a brilliant pastime for both physical and mental health, but there are some jobs that often find themselves being put on the back burner… like the weeding.
Installing raised beds throughout the garden can reduce weeding work significantly. By elevating the growing area, you’ll plant species more closely together, which minimises exposed soil and prevents weed germination.
And let’s not forget that the higher the beds are, the easier upkeep will be on your back!
4. Native planting
If you’re keen to have a beautiful garden without having to do much in terms of looking after plants, introducing native species would be a great idea. Local plants will do well with regional climates and weather so you can worry less about fertiliser and constant watering.
