Families with young children are sure to want them to have some outdoor space in which to escape – and to burn off all that energy without running riot through the house!
As such, designing a child-friendly garden will always be a good idea, giving your little ones the chance to enjoy the great outdoors safely (and where you can keep an eye on them as they play), as well as giving them lots of learning opportunities.
When planning the initial layout of your space, make sure you put the needs and interests of your children at the forefront of your mind so you can create plenty of room for them to have features that they’ll enjoy, such as swing sets, trampolines, sandboxes and so on.
Naturally, the age of your children will dictate what you need – and you can always engage them in the process and ask them what they’d like to have.
Aside from setting room aside for at-home playground equipment, consider planting with your kids in mind, as well. Creating a sensory garden is a great choice if you have children as it will help them connect with the natural world more immediately.
Top planting choices include cheerful sunflowers, mint, strawberries, lamb’s ears (which have incredibly soft and silky leaves), pumpkins and fountain grass.
Providing space for children to grow their own food is also a wise move, as it will teach them all sorts of new skills and they’ll thoroughly enjoy the experience of growing something from seed and then seeing it on their plates at dinner time.
Of course, these are only a couple of ideas and you could really go all out with your child-friendly garden. If you’d like any further guidance or advice, get in touch with the LW Landscapes team today.
